Paraxanthine vs. Caffeine: What's the Difference?
If you have ever wondered what is in our gummies besides kanna, the answer is paraxanthine. It is one of the most interesting ingredients in the Youphoria lineup, and also one of the least familiar. Here is a plain-language guide.
What is paraxanthine?
When you drink a cup of coffee, your body breaks caffeine down into several compounds. Paraxanthine is the main one. In other words, it is the compound your body already makes from caffeine, which is why it is often described as a close relative of caffeine.
Why we use it instead of caffeine
Our gummies do not contain caffeine. Instead, each gummy contains 25mg of paraxanthine paired with 50mg of organic kanna extract. Many of our customers enjoy them as part of a morning or afternoon routine in place of an extra cup of coffee.
Why pair it with kanna?
Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) is a succulent native to South Africa with a long history of traditional use. We pair it with paraxanthine to create our energizing blend, a daytime gummy that fits into your routine without relying on caffeine.
Good to know
- Paraxanthine is closely related to caffeine, so if you are sensitive to stimulants, start with one gummy and see how your body responds.
- Individual responses vary. Everyone is different.
- Our Mylk Chocolate Gems are different: they contain guarana, which naturally contains caffeine.
- Not for use if pregnant or nursing, or if taking SSRIs, MAOIs, or other prescription medications. Consult your doctor before use.
